tured by Die U. S. Ninth Army In Oborembt. Germany. The mortar
barrel Is seven feet long, and Ores a five-foot shell .weighing 770
pounds. Five-man tank crew was protected by 5-inch armor In front.

SSKt. Hoy W. Steele died Feb
ruary 26 aboard a ship en route
back from the Pacific war zone
to the United States. Sgt. Steele,
who had visited Mr. and Mrs.
Steele at their home here a num
ber of times, had been overseas
since May. 1942, and had served
In Australia, New Guinea and
Lcytc. In a letter to his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Steele, Port
land, written early in February,
he stated that he was due to re
turn home at once, under the ro
tation program. Apparently he
had started the long trek home
v. hen stricken with pneumonia
and his parents were advised of
his death when the boat docked
at San Francisco. He -is - sur
vived, in addition to his parents,
oy nis widow, tstnor Steele ana
his 21-year-old son, William Wes
ley, whom he had never seen.- A
brother, George W. Steele, Seat
tle, also survives. Funeral serv
ices were held March 28 at Port
land. The Presbytery and. Prcsby
terial of Southwest Oregon will
meet April 10-11 in Klamath
Falls, it was announced- this
week by Rev. Hugh pronson,
pastor of the Tulclake Commun
ity Presbyterian church, who Is
serving as moderator.' A new
moderator will be elected during
the session. Mrs. Bronson is serv
ing as program chairman for the
Prcsbytenal session. . . .
