patrol skirmishes occurred yes
terday on both the Fifth and
Eighth army frontsh, with the
enemy reacting to allied raiding
parties with heavy machlncgun
and small arms fire, allied head
quarters announced today.
In a short fight near San An
sano, at the entrance to the
Bologna road net which has
been heavily defended in recent
months, ono American patrol
suffered light casualties. A short
time later a lS-man enemy pa
trol tried to slip through the
same area and was driven back.
In the fifth army area, Amer
ican artillery concentrated on
groups of enemy soldiers as well
as movements behind the Ger
man lines.
