A veteran of many months in
the Pacific, Marine Pvt. 1c
Kenneth O. Wise, formerly of
Klamath Falls, was recently
graduated from tho Infantry and
Browning .automatic rifle school
at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside,
Calif. Ho Is now prepared for
assignment to a combat unit.
Wise served at Pearl Harbor
and in the Marshall islands. His
brother, Army 1st Lt. Henry O.
Wise, is overseas.

post and stage. Stage shipping is
found to be very satisfactory in
this region, according to the
hatcher. The stage drivers take
special care of tho chicks in their
custody.
Loans For Veterans

SALEM, March 8 (P) The
house passed and sent to the sen
ate today a bill providing loans
up to $3000 to veterans for pur
chlise of farms und homes. The
bill carries out the terms of a
one-mill propcrtty tax approved
for the nurposc by the voters last
November,
The loans could be up to 75
per cent of the value of the
property, would bear 4 per cent
Interest, and be amortized In 20
years.

will arrive in Klumuth Falls
Friday morning In conjunction
with the Klamath Shrine club's
ninth annual dance ut the arm
ory on April 7 for tho benefit
of the crippled children's hos
pital In Portland.
Riley will bo present at a
kickoff breakfast with Klamath
Falls city officials Friday morn
ing and will speak to the Rotary
club at noon. Ho will also ad
dress tho Shrine club on the
operation of the Shrino hospital
In Portland Friday . evening.
Riley Is a chairman ot the hos
pital board.
Muyor Ed Ostendorf of Klam
ath Fulls said today that this
city has more children in the
hospital, according to popula
tion than any other district com
ing jjndc-r its jurisdiction.
He also stated that the Shrine
club here collected a total of
$3575 for the benefit : of crip
pled children last year and that
amount Is expected to be ex
ceeded this year.
The purpose of this hospital
Is to provide aid for" crippled
children not having the finan
cial means to pay for ' neces
sary hospitalization.

vestigation today after 8-year-
old Raymond Martin was killed
while riding his bicycle along
the Washougal river road. .
The boy, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Martin, Washougal,
was struck by a car yesterday.
The sheriff's office said James
H. Egan, 32-year-old shipyard
worker, Camas, was driving the
