Calls for Oregon hops declined
last month, the war food admin
istration (WFA) said today.
Reporting a scant demand for
long-term contracts, the WFA
said brewers were doubtful of
needs because of favorable wnr

In YMCA Swim Pool

E. CadWcll, 22, was found
drowned yesterday in the YMCA
swimming pool.
YMCA officials said they
could find no one who saw Cad
well enter the pool. He was not
a. member of the organization,
and could not swim. His clothes
were found beside the pool.

be Senor Americo Usandivaras,
a native of Lima, Peru, it has
been announced by Dr. Henry
D. Stevens, assistant director of
the general extension division
of the state system of higher
education. .
Senor Usandivaras will appear
in Klamath Falls on March 12
and 13, . meeting the class at
7:15 p. ,m.
To be in Oregon during the
entire month of March, Senor
Usandivaras has been sent by
the Coordinator of Inter-American
Affairs office in Washing
ton, D. C, in cooperation with
the state system of higher edu
cation. . !
He will also lecture in Eu
gene, Portland, Ashland, Rose
burg, Coos Bay, Tillamook, As
toria and probably in Salem,
Albany Corvallis.

Mineral Entry Eyed
In Land Grants
WASHINGTON, March 2 (IP)
Two million acres of land ln
Oregon included in the Oregon
California grant and the Coos
Bay road grant should be re
opened to mineral entry, says
Rep. Angell (R-Ore).
Angcll inserted a memorial by
the Oregon legislature in the
Congressional Record and urged
the house to give "careful and
favorable consideration," to a
bill by Senator Cordon (R-Ore,)
to accomplish this purpose.
Angell said Interior Secretary
Ickes holds that the law passed
in 1937 placing the forests on a
perpetual yield basis has, by im
plication, closed the former grant
