City Engineer E. A. Thomas
appeared before city council
Monday night to report that a
section of Martin street, be
tween Oak and Stukcl, is in a
very poor condition, and the sit
uation that exists is causing a
great deal of trouble to motorists.
According to Thomas, a large
amount of water has settled In
the street for an area of S00
feet, and several people have
complained to mm of tms con
dition. It was originally thought
that the weather was the cause
of the damage, but upon inves
tigation, it was found that an
underground flow of water was
forcing itself through the sur
face of the ground at this point
and settling there.
Thomas feels that the pres
sure of several hot water wells
that have been dug is this area
may be possibly causing the
trouble. He suggested the in
stallation of a drain, with the
cost amounting to approximate
ly $450. Tho councilmen accept
ed, his recommendation and pro
posed that the amount used for
installation be taken from the
state highway tax fund.
