FOURTEEN HERALD AND WEWft ThuraUy, Jin. 15, 14S DREGONLOvJEST Medoled IN REJECTIONS DRAFTEES . w,&Xvssai'Sj i ii i I tail y i l i ' i i i i t u WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 VP) A selective service s u r v e y showed today that Oregon had the lowest draft rejection rate in h. omintrv 24.4 per cent. Washington stood fourth. Rank ing next were Kansas, 25.4; Utah 26.1: Washington, 28.2 and Ida i An the survey also showed that domestic help topped the list of i-ocxisiranLs reiocted for military duty after physical ex aminations. The study, just completed, al so reveals North and South Caro lina and Arkansas led the states in the percentage of men dis qualified. , , ' ' Although the state-by-state fig ures are based on rejections from February through August, 1943, the report as a whole is a 20 per cent sampling of reports on more than 9,000,000 registrants exam ined from April, 1942 to Janu ary. 1944. . ,, It disclosed that during the pe riod, 59.6 per cent of such work ers as household cooks, chauf feurs .and valets were found to be physically disqualified for the armed services. . Rejections were next highest among "emergency" or part-time workers and the unemployed, where 56.5 per cent were turned down, and among farmers and farm 'managers, where 56.4 per cent were disqualified. The survey, the first compre hensive report covering regis trants called up since Pearl Har bor, offers no explanation of the Alntiiralv iah ri,w,t Inn rnfp among these workers. At the other end of the range are students, with only 25-7 per cent of their number turned down, apparently because near ly all are in the lower age brack ets. The report covers men of all age groups summoned for physi cals,' ranging up to registrants 45 for the early part of the 21 months surveyed. The total of registrants examined is not niYtlrsn rlmim ac in nfn Spokane Evangelists uonaucr services Evangelist and Mrs. Val Cloud of Spokane, Wash., are now conducting special nightly services at the Full Gospel church of Tulelake, beginning at 8 o'clock each evening.
