Man Said Guilty
A verdict of guilty against
William Johnston, charged with
assault while armed with a
deadly weapon, was returned
Thursday in Yreka following a
two-day trial.
Johnston was charged with
stabbing August Turner, Tule
lakc farmer, last spring during
an altercation at Tulelakc.
Johnston is a former Klamath
Falls resident. He was to have
been sentenced Tuesday when
Superior Judge James M. Allen
ordered a new trial as ho felt
that instructions to the jury
may have boon prejudicial and
incomplete.
The district attorney stated
he felt instructions were suffi
cient and proper and has ap
pealed the Judge's order to the
appellate court. Tlie prosecution
stated that in its opinion the
verdict should stand.'

Gladys Turley, who shot and
seriously Injured her friend,
Pauline Conradt, here the night
of December 15, pleaded guilty
Wednesday morning in circuit
court and was sentenced to the
stato penitentiary for a period
not to exceed 10 years.
Assistant District Attorney
William S. Fort said the state
ment made in his charges that
the crime was premeditated
could bo proven by the fact that
Miss Turley carried the gun in
from the farm in the country
which she and Miss Conradt op
erated jointly. He said relations
between the two women were
"very close," and stated that
the altercation which led to the
shooting arose when Miss Con
radt announced her intentions
of marrying a soldier now over
seas. Miss Turlcy's attorney, W. P.
Hiddlesbargcr, described Miss
Turlcy's action as one indicat
ing "emotional insanity."
