OREGOIS PACE TWO 150 PACKAGES DELIVERED TO SICK MINES The 70-odd bed patients in the Marine Barracks hospital have been royally treated this Christmas, with more than 150 packages of gifts already deliv ered to the wards, and many more promised. Drilling For Oil To Begin In Oregon PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 23 (iP) ' Test drilling for oil in Oregon's Columbia county may begin soon. Carl G. Kinney, general man ager of Clark-Wilson Lumber company, disclosed that his firm has leased Columbia county logged-over limber land to the Texas company, an oil corpora tion. The Texas company has estab lished an office here following geological tests in Columbia county an3 other western Ore gon areas. Tallbot Voider, holder of the. Bronze Slur, was formally presented with his per manent citation by Col. George A. Van Ordcn. The awards were made during a review of troops on the parade ermtnris with Cunt. W. W. Curtis ; j serving as commander of troops i Willi ui. y, it. j urivil as Hiijii-I tant. Two companies of marines look part in the ceremony, i PFC Paul M. Witte, PFC I Michael Pcrakovic, and PhM ; 3c Nickolas J. Ellen, were the men who received the Purple Heart for wounds received in ac tion. Witte received shrapnel wounds in the arm and leg, while serving on Guam, Pcrako vic was wounded in the foot by mortar shell fragments on Sal pan, and Ellen was struck in the hand by a Jap bullet and in the knee by shell fragments, also on SaiDan. Voglcr was decorated last ! August. His temporary citation, from Admiral Nimitr, commend ed him for work as a stretcher bearer on Bougainville. Elks Hear Christmas Music At Meeting Christmas music presented by the Sacred Heart choir was en joyed by members of tho Elk lodge at the regular meeting held Thursday night in tho Elks temple.
