LONDON, Dec. 7 (IF) Brit
Ish bombers attacked Germany's

Merseburg and two railyards
with 7000 tons of bombs last
night . Just a few hours after
1600 American bombers and
fighters raided the oil plant and
another rail center in ciayngm.
Another RAF force bombed
Berlin the 172nd night raid
on the nazi capital since the
war.
It was the 18th heavy bomb
ing of the Leuna refinery which
once contributed 50,000 tons of
oil a month to the naii war ma
chine. The RAF's rail targets were
at Osnabruck and Giessen.
American Liberators earlier had
smashed those at Bielefeld.
Sharp battles between the
British fighter escort and Ger
man interceptors were report
ed, particularly around Merse
burg. Twenty-one British planes
were lost and at least 17 enemy
craft were destroyed,-, an air
ministry communique said.-
The Luftwaffe stuck to the
ground during daylight ' yester
day and American losses were
limited to four bombers and
two fighters knocked down by
German anti-aircraft fire.
The heavy night assault kept
the Reich reverberating with
bomb blasts for 72 straight
hours. .
Approximately 14,000 bomb
ers and fighters have participat
ed in coordinated attacks from
bases in Britain, Belgium and
France since Monday.

units, have been taken over by
the Seattle district of army en
gineers as surplus property.
The four are Felts field at
Spokane, and the army airfields
at Cutbank, Glasgow and Lewis
town, Mont., all used by the
Spokane air technical command
as supplemental fields for larger
bases.
