Home salted nuts should be on
every Thanksgiving table this
year because mere is such b
large supply of thorn .... and
because it really takes very lit
tle of the homemaker's time.
Although they are probably best
fried in deep fat, the fat short
age will cause many home
makers to roasl her almonds and
peanuts by the oven or frying
pan method.
Almonds should be blanched
before frying, that is. immersed
in boiling water, and then just
simmered for three minutes. The
skins will then come off easily
when pressed with thumb and
forefinger. Then add two tea
spoons of cooking oil or melted
vegetables or table fat and one
teaspoon salt to eacn cup 01
nutmeats. Place in a frying pan
over a low heat, stirring con
stantly until hot through.
Almonds take a little longer
than other nuts, 15 to 30 min
utes, usually, depending on just
how you prefer them. I ncy may
be heated in a shallow pan In
the oven (at 375 F.) if you wish.

Wool and wet weather go
hand in hand, it seems, and if
you are finding a shiny outline
around the edge of winter wool
skirt pleats, fating and seam
edges, you might like to try the
U.S.D.A. (that's the United States
department of agriculture) sug
gestion that you use a piece of
thin cardboard on the inside of
the pleat when pressing. It
should be as long as the pleat
and three or four inches wide.
County library's Wary Me

makers this week. She says:
Mama s Bank Account by
Kathryn Forbes is a delightful
book about a Norwegian immi

of their American life in San
Francisco. It would be difficult
to find m print a more heart
warming series of pictures of
people, poor in this world's
goods but rich in universal hu

Chess pics make mighty good
