now In Grunts Pass on a 30-day
furlough, visiting with his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hartley,
who recently moved from Klam
ath Fulls to Grants Pass.
Sgt. Hartley has been In tho
northern Islands for three years
and Is well-known In Klamath
county, having lived in the Mer
rill and M11II11 districts for many
ycur.
Word was received here by Mr.
nnd Mrs. James Patterson of 235
Worth Tenth that their son, Lt.
S. J. Patterson bus been promot
ed to a captain. Captain Patter
son is In the South Pacific with
the infantry, lie enlisted as a
private in Januury, 1041. His
family moved to Klamath Falls
in 1040, and he has visited' here
often.
AAF INSTRUMENT IN
STRUCTORS' SCHOOL, BRY
AN, Tex. Sgt. John McGInnis,
former Klamath Falls resident,
recently completed an eight-
week Instrument trainer Instruc
tor's course at Bryan field, a
specialized school in tho central
flying training command.
At Bryan field where Sgt.
McGInnis was stationed, two pro
grams devoted to maintaining
and improving the already high
standards of performance of the
army air forces aro conducted.
Student officers, ranging In
grado from flight officers to col
onels, devote six weeks of inten
sive study perfecting their abil
ity to guide aircraft through all
types of weather. In the Instru
ment trainer Instructors' pro
gram, enlisted men and officers
learn the latest phases of link
trainer Instruction and are then
assigned to operational bases
throughout the United States as
Instructors.
Robert H. Kldwell. 26, son of
D. W. Kldwell, 34S1 Altamont
drive, Klamath Falls, was en
rolled recently In an intensive
course ai the electrical naval
training school located at the St.
Louis, Missouri navol armory.
Selection to attend the school
was made on the basis of his re
cruit training aptitude tests. The
complete course of study includes
the practical use of electrical
tools, soldering, wiring, diagram
ming and repairing of telephone
circuits. A theoretical phase in
cludes principles of electricity
and magnetism.
Successful completion of the
course will see the bluejacket
graduate with recognition as
eligible to qualify for the petty
officer rate of electrician's mate
third class.
WITH THE FIFTH ARMY,
Italy Constructing telephone
lines as far forward as enemy fire
permits, is the assignment of
Pvt. Lonnle E. Cory of Malln,
who is a lineman with a wlr
construction company of tho 63rd
signal battalion serving ln Italy,
His company installs all tele
phone and teletype facilities
within the fifth army command
post and between subordinate
units ln the field.
