WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (IP)
Point values of rationed meats
will remain unchanged in the
four-week period beginning sun
day, September 3, and ending
September 30, but some varieties
of cheese and canned milk will
cost more points.
The point value of group J
rhnH. such as Swiss. Italian
Munster, limburger, Camenbert,
Liederkranz, grated-dehydraiea,
brick, Gouda, Greek, Edam.
Bleu and Brie is increased from
8 to 10 points a pound.
Canned milk, both condensed
and evaporated, will cost one
point a pound, instead of two
thirds of a point. Heretofore, a
single can of nniK nas lanen
one point, but three cans cost
only two points.
In announcing September red
point values, the office of price
administration said consumers
had hppn buvins? croim 3 cheese
in excess of allocation for civil
ian use, and that sales of canned
milk also are running ahead of
war food administration alloca-
tions.

to cost 16 points a pound, al

butter, however, will be in
creased from 6 to 12 points, to
bring its point cost more closely
in line with 16 points for cream

The OPA said the over-all
meat supply for civilians would
be 2.1 per cent larger in Sep
tember than in August, but that
the supply of better grades cost
ing points would be 10'-4 per
lent smaller.

House's mother arrived from
San Diego this morning where
his father is stationed in the
navy. House enlisted in the
army airv corps and was await
ing call for active duty. It is
reported that he is doing nicely.
Norris Able to
Take Liquid Food
McCOOK, Teb., Aug. 31 (IP)
Former Senator George W. Nor
ris has been: able to take some
liquid food, although he still has
not regained full consciousness,
doctors attending the 83-year-old
lawmaker said today.
Norris, who has been in a state
of semiconsciousness since suf
fering a . cerebral hemorrhage
Tuesday at his home here, is still
in a critical condition, the phy
sicians said. His pulse was de
scribed as "rathr fast." '.
Crews Battle Fire
Near Charleston
. NORTH BEND, Aug. 31 (IP)
The Coos head park patrol bat
tled to save an abandoned ex
periment station as a brush fire
blazed up four miles south of
Charleston yesterday.
A series of other blazes sprang
up in the Coos area. Twenty
five acres of small timber was
destroyed south of Bandon, and
a slashing fire was reported near
Gravelford and another near
Bennett's Butte.

five miles southeast of Dieppe to
day in an operation ahead of the
fust-moving British and Cana
dian armies made at thu re
quest of Gen. Sir Bernard L.
Montgomery.
The dump was in the Darqucs
forest where Havocs bombed a
lurge German oil .depot yester
day.
Marauder medium bombers
made their second attack in 18
hours on the fortified island of
Cezembre, barring access to the
mouth of bt. ftlalo harbor.
A strong force of heavy British
Halifax bombers returned to the
attack on Cezembro island Inter
in the clay, letting down through
overcast to 2500 feet to beat at
the heavy gun batteries.
British Alosquitos struck at en
emy war transport and industry
in northern France and Germany
last night despite the handicap
of poor weather.

raiders, operating as fighter

state unemployment compensa
tion commission announced to
day it would begin to take claims
September 10 in its 22 offices
from returning veterans.
Men and women who have
served in the armed forces for
90 days may draw $20 a week
for one year if they can't find
suitable work.
The B-29 "Superfortress" has
a wingspan of 141.2 feet, length
of 98 feet and height of 27 feet.
The Flying Fortress has a wing
span of 103 feet, length of 74
feet and height of 19 feet.

' 6 Cups Sugar
14 Cup Lemon Juice
1 Package M.CP. Pcctir.
Wash, peel, and remove pits from 4
pounds fully ripe peaches; grind the
fruit. Measure cxacdy 4 level cups of
the ground peaches (add water to fill
out last cup,' if necessary) In a large
kettle. Add the M.CP. Pectin and
lemon Juice, stir well and bring to a
boil, stirring constantly. NOW, add
the sugar (which has been previously
measured), continue stirring, and bring
to a full rolling boil. BOIL EXACTLY
4 MINUTES. Remove from fire, let
boil subside, stir and skim by turns
for 5 minutes. Pour into sterilized jars,
allowing M-'nch space for sealing with
fresh paraffin.
