up students at Wocus Flat about
12:30. This bus will return
through Pelican City and Ship
pington and g north on Lake
shore Drive to Geary's ranch.
Another bus will leave the
high school at 12:45 and will go
to the Weyerhaeuser junction,
Weyerhaeuser hotel, and return.
The third bus will leave the
high school at 12:30 and go out
Summers lane to the Anderson
road and : thence to Altamont
Drive, South Sixth and back to
the high school via South Sixth
street. y
A fourth bus will leave at
12:30 and go out Shasta Way to
Wiard street and then to South
Sixth and return to the high
school via South Sixth.
The buses will make their re
turn trips about 3:30.
The program is- scheduled to
start at 1:30 p. m., August 31,
in the auditorium. Although pri
marily lor entering-freshmen, it
should be of interest and value
to a.ll. new students. . -
Bob McLean, ' student body
president, and several otner stu
dent leaders are expected to par
ticipate. The object of the meet
ing is to acquaint new students'
with the traditions, customs, and
regulations of Klamath Union
high school as well as the physi
cal plant. Attendance is volun
tary but it is hoped all new
comers will attend.

surance company. Harry Mathes. 13, Herald and News carrier,
seems to feel well-compensated for the cut he received on his
arm while playing in his yard. He Is the first boy to receive a
check since the carriers took out insurance in June. 1944. Harry
lives at 907 Walnut and is a freshman at the Academy. He has
carried the Herald and news since January. 1344.

filth of whisky by purchasing
two-fifths of imported rum or

third straight day tonight, most
of them battering oil targets
in Germany.
Others dealt the besieged

pounding in 36 hours.
.Up to 750 heavy bombers
with as many escorting fighters
ranged over northwest - and
southwest Germany in a third
consecutive blow, at Hitler's oil
plants.
. The daylight blows followed
overnight operations- in France
and Germany-by ,1400. RAF
bombers, and-6450 flights Fri
day from British and French
bases. . . .-.
Targets today included the
Scholvan-Buer and Nordstcrn
synthetic oil plants at Gclscn
kerchen, an oil refinery at Em
merich near the Dutch border,
an oil finishing plant at Salz
bergen west jf Osnabruck. and
synthetic oil facilities at Lud
wigshafen near the Sviss bor
der. German batteries and forti
fied positions at Brest were' at
tacked by up to 250 Liberators
and Flying Fortresses, aiding
ground assaults to crush resist
ance in the big Atlantic port.
Brest's defenses were drenched
last night by 1350 tons of ex
plosives by the RAF.

land, and Mosquitos unloaded
two-ton blockbusters on Berlin.
The RAF lost 27 planes during
the night.
The allied air forces lost 78
planes in their extensive opera
tions yesterday and throughout
the night. These included 17
bombers.' seven fighters for the
U. S. eighth air force and 19
planes for the U. S. ninth air
force.
Against their losses the allies
tallied 144 German aircraft de
stroyed in tho air and on the
ground. : -
