Work on Morrlson-Knudsen-Twait's
expansion program at the
Klamath naval air station is
. about 50 per cent complete it
was estimated today by Lt. John
M. Babcock, naval officer in
charge of construction. .
The tab includes nine addi-
tional barracks buildings, a new
sewage treatment plant, three
bachelor officers' quarters, ex
pansion of the boiler house and
mess hall, enlargement of the
dispensary and laundry, and ex
tension of landing facilities and
plane parking facilities, along
with certain other work.
The new barracks have stucco
pvterinrs. a measure- taken to
conserve 1-inch lumber. Other
wise, they are similar to the
barracks buildings erected in the
original contract. . .
New sewage treatment system
construction was ordered when it
was found the original system
would not be adequate for the ex
panded station.
Nnt included in the re-negoti
ated M-K-T contract is another
hangar which it is expected, will
be built at the local field. A
separate contract on that job ap
pears imeiy.
Architects Whitehouse," -Price
and Perrin are completing plans
for expansion at the Lakeview
airport, wnicn is a iacimy usea
in connection with the Klamath
naval air station. Lakeview is to
have more barracks, a hangar,
expanded parking facilities, and
other improvements in connec
tion with the expanded activity
at the Klamath station. .
Seventy-six pies in 21 variet
ies were brought to the Com
mando center this past weekend
in answer to an appeal for home
made pies to vary the coffee bar
menu, and the Commandos to
day expressed their sincere ap
preciation for the surprisingly
"v. , large donation which allowed for
ample servings to their uni
formed guests.
There were all kinds of fresh
berry pies, sour cream, cherry,
apple, banana cream, whipped
cream and chocolate cream,

High School Gets Face
Lifted During Summer
Klamath Union high school is
having its face lifted during the
summer vacation, and when the
students return in the fall to
start school again they should be
very pleasantly surprised by the
sight that greets them.
The' individual rooms have
different tints now instead of the
solid colors that formerly
adorned fhe walls. All the rooms
facing the front lawn are colored
"April green,", and all the rooms
on the wings facing the sides are
shaded to a "peach glow."

been painted, too (just the wood

the girls locker room have been
repainted. .
One of the science rooms has
been moved so that the science
department is located as one unit
in the north part of the west
wing, instead of being spread out
as it was formerly.
It was discovered that termites
had eaten ,up the floor of the
mechanical drawing room so the
floor and foundation had to be
torn up completely. A new floor
is being put in.
The high school board is con
sidering a plan to put black top
in the area between the school
building and the gymnasium,
where the school buses are usually-
parked.
Before the summer is finished,
the field house will be fixed uo
as well as the grandstand. The
floors in the girls' gym have
been varnished, and work will
start on Pelican Court or the
boys' gym in the next few weeks.
The small rooms off the main
band room have been plastered
and kalsomined and will be used
for storage rooms during the
coming year.
The office of Joseph Peak, su
pervisor of physical education,
has been renovated with the
walls being plastered and kalso
mined. .
