Set to Stop
Air Station
Medford Crater Confidant
Of Defeating Unbeaten
Navy Squad; Crippen Start
The Medford Craters will Jour
ney over to Klamath Falls this
Sunday for the express purpose
of stopping the powerful naval
air station nine and every indi
cation shows that they will have
a better chance to accomplish
this goal than any of the previous
contenders.
(in th mound for. the Craters
will be Steve Crippen who is a
veteran right-hander who has
been at the game long enough
to know almost all the tricks
in the book. Crippen has a good
curve and possesses a lot of con
trol. Those who know, say Steve
is one of the smartest hurlers
in these parts. However, in case
she should get in trouble, South
paw Don Safford will be on hand
to relieve him.
Catching the slants of both
pitchers will be Paul Freer also
a veteran with long experience.
On first for the Craters is Homer
Sullivan, who is a lanKy ngni
hander and covers the sack well.
On second base is Leo Calac,
whn U rated the best ball player
in the Medford -Camp White
league, bar none, caiac triea out
with the San Diego Padres and
he had a 'contract signed with
them when the draft took bun
away to the army and Camp
White. .
Rangy Hubert Klelbas will be
at shortstop for Medford. He has
a long reach and usually plays a
bang-up game. Harold Lange and
Don Wilky alternate at third
base and general manage to keep
the hot corner pretty cool.
The outer gardens will be well
kept by Irwin Jones in right,
Virgil Swanson in. center, and
Floyd Lawson in the left corner.
In case any of them get into
trouble Young Fred Stanmen
will be ready to take over.
The Craters last week defeat-
. ed the Station Hospital 8-4 and
by virtue of the win they moved
imo a ue lor nrst piace. next
week they will meet the WPRC
unit to determine the champions
of the circuit.

Both Lose
Wolly Mots Victim of Finn,
Paavo Victim of Lipscomb;
Jackson, Milt Olsen Draw
Both Paavo Katonen and Ref
eree Wally Moss ended up on
the short nd of the score in Fri
day's main event as Buck Lips
comb walked off with top hon
ors much to the crowd's disap
proval. Lipscomb took the first fall
with some slugging on the back
of Paavo's neck following up
with a body press. Paavo came
back with a body slam combined
with an old-fashioned grapevine
hold.
In the final round Katonen
and Lipscomb were roughing it
up in one of the corners when
Paavo accidentally hit Wally
Moss on the side of his face
knocking Moss down. Paavo, be
ing the clean type of fellow,
leaned down to apologize to the
referee. Buck, not having such
good manners, calmly kicked
Katonen in the ribs and then
with a back slam followed by a
body press he went on to win
the match.
At latest reports Wally Moss
was still nursing a sore jaw, but
he said the only thing he minded
about it was that it hurt to eat.
The semi-final event was an
other wild and woolly event with
rough Tony MorelH finally los
ing to clever Ivan Jones. Morel
li took the first fall in the sec
ond round with a body press that
followed some vicious eye-gouging.
Jones came back pronto to
take the second fall with a series
of body slams.
Tony toon wnat was supposed
to be the final fall with a type
of leg bold, but Moss was in
formed by the crowd that Jones'
foot happened to be outside the
rope so Wally told Morelli to
come back and fight again. But
Tony wouldn't come so he was
counted out and the fall was
awarded to Ivan Jones.
The opener saw Bulldog Jack
son and Mily Olsen win one fall
apiece, each with a pounding
hammerlock to go to a three
round draw. This match saw bet
ter acting among the grapplers
than is seen among most of the
movie actors. As far as actual
wrestling is concerned Mickey
Mouse could probably do a bet
