Three Fires Put
Out by Department
Tho fire department was
called Wednesday to extinguish
three small fires, none of which
did much damage.
At 2:23, the hook and ladder
boys were called to extinguish
a trash' fire on the railroad right
of way, and a little later, they
wcro called to Rogers street to
put out a grass fire.

pany called at five but there was
no serious damage.

day that officer candidate ap
plications for the corps of mili
tary police and chemical war
fare service are again being
processed.
Ho ulso announced that civil
affairs officers wilt bo selected
und trained for duty in the Far
East. "The selection contem
plates the recruitment for a
number of officers with special
skills, including public safety,"
the announcement said.
Training provides for six
weeks of instruction at the
school of military government,
Charlottesville, Va., and there
after six months of instruction
at a civilian university.
Far Eastern residence and
travel aro desirable in the quali
fication list. Applicants must
be in grades from lieutenant to
major, inclusive; 30 to 50 years
of age; physically fit for over
seas duty. Knowledge of an
Asiatic language is desirable.

Farmers Asked to Join in
Farm Safety Week Program

organizations in observing July
23-29 as National Farm Safety
week to cut down the heavy
manpower toll of farm deaths
and Injuries resulting from ac
cidents, reports Earl A. Gard
ner, county FSA supervisor, lo

Twenty thousand farm people
were killed in farm accidents
in 1943, and over 2,000,000
farmers, members of their fam
ilies or hired help injured, ac

In observance of Farm Safety
week, FSA. borrowers can help
prevent accidents through
checking up on hazards that ex
ist on their farms and taking
corrective steps as soon as pos
sible. Safety bulletins and check
sheets are available through the
county agent's office and a lim
ited number can be secured by
FSA borrowers at the county
FSA office.

Falls, is now an integral mem
ber of the amphibious forces of
the US navy.
