Crashes in Montana
SEDALIA, Mo., June 19 (P)
A U. S. marine bomoer on a
routine flight from Dnse i
Cherry Point, North Carolina, to
St. Louis, crashed Sunday in
wooded country 11 miles west of
Lako View Heights, Mo., about
40 miles south of Sedalla. The
five crewmen parachuted safely
when they saw their gasoline
supply give out after the plane
had lost its bearings because of
radio trouble. ,
Capt. J. W. Cunningham, 25,
Wlnlock, Wash., pilot of the
craft, said ho ordered his crew
to "hit the silk" and he fol
lowed, last to leave tlio ship,
which crashed about 10 miles
east of where the men bailed
out and was demolished..

tors boring the Smith rock tun
nels are making such fast pro
gress that Deschutes river water
now is expected to be available
for the southern unit of the
Madras irrigation project next
summer.
One of the tunnels has been
driven 600 feet into the cliffs
overlooking the Crooked river
gorge east of Terrebonne. The
second, which will be 3300 feet
long, has progressed 400 feet.
