KENNY
METHOD
EVALUATED IN
AMA HEARING
CHICAGO, June 15 (F) A
charge that the public and many
doctors nave been misled by pub
licity about the infantile paraly
sis treatment of Sister Elizabeth
Kenny, famous Australian nurse,
was made to the American Medi
cal association hero today in a
report by seven university pro
fessors, all physicians.
They also said they acknowl
edge that the Kenny publicity
has stimulated the medical pro
fession to more effective treat
ment. The seven were appointed two
years ago this June to evaluate
the Kenny treatment by the or.
thopedic section of the American
Medical associftion and by the
American Academy or orthoped
ic surgeons and tne American ur.
thopedic association.
'There is no evidence," the re.
port said, "that the Kenny treat
ment prevents or decreases the
amount of paralysis. We criti
cize severely the oft repeated
statement of Miss Kenny to pa
tients who have come to her after
treatment elsewhere that had
his case came to her early the
disability would have been pre
vented. Such statements are not
founded on facts.
