Fingerling Fish Cavort in
New Freedom in Lily, Cave
; NEW PINE CREEK - Four
thousand of the prettiest littlo
fingerling rainbow trout you
ever saw and not a one groggy
or sick slithered inlo the
cool waters of Lily and Cave
lakes last Thursday, June 1 un
der the supervision Of State Bio
logist J. ft. Wales, assisted by
Georgo Perkins, Lee Bernard,
Earl Butler and George Con-
When the fish discovered they
woro no longer lh the confines
of the two state tanks , that
brought them but instead free
ai the birds of the air, they
snapped their flnny-flippors in
suddon ecstasy and darted mad
ly"hithor and yon like whirly
gusts of chaff in the air from
tho spout of an old thresher.
The biologist Immediately
made this observation after
watching some of the 2000 that
were put in each lake, cavort
and flop. "There is sure a 16t

fi-tnlnlv orow fast." And so the
fascinating, liberty loving crea-.

One thousand cars of cattle
were shipped by .rail in the last
month from California into the
Klamath basin for feeding over
the summer .months. This ex
tremely heavy movement in
feeder livestock was a 100
increase over last year, accord
ing to Southern Pacific District
Freight and . Passenger Agent
Jloyd Stitt.
Reason for the large number
of cattle sent up here from the
south is the drought condition
in-t&iiiornia this year. Most of
the livestock is coming north
from Redding, Red Bluff and
the Sacramento valley. By iall
those of the cattle which have
been fattened enough will be
shipped to market. The others
will be returned to California
for winter feeding.
