War department recordi showed
today that an Associated Press
dispatch received yesterday
from allied headquarter! In
North Africa reporting the death
of General Louli Marie Koeltz,
commander of the French 19th
army corpi, wai erroneoui.
The dispatch laid that the
American Legion of Merit med
al had been given posthumously
to General Koeltz. This appar
ently wai due to confusion of
hla name with that of General
Marie Joseph Edouard Welvert,
who wai killed while leading
French troopi In the Plchon
lector In Tunisia last April and
who wai awarded the Legion
of Merit of Allied Leaders In
the North African campaign to
receive the American award, is
alive. An Algleri broadcast to
day said "General Koeltz is in
perfect health."

Joseph Milter Lamson, for the
last twenty-three yean a resident
of Westwood, Calif., passed away
at the home of his daughter, Mri,
Martin E. Ramsby, 621 North
Fifth street, on Thursday, Au
gust 10, 1043, at 2:02 a. m., fol
lowing an Illness of leven
months. He wai a native of
Springfield, III., and at the lime
of hli death wai aged 76 years,
4 months and 25 days. Mr. Lam
son wai Justice of the peace in
Westwood, Calif., at the time of
hli death. Surviving are three
sons, Joseph William Lamson, of
Nubieber, Calif., Robert Lee
Lamson of Kansas City, and John
Lamson of Redding, Calif.; three
daughters, Mrs. J. S. Starr of
Westwood. Calif., Mrs. Russell
Hlllery Totman of Berkeley,
Calif., and Mrs. Martin E. Rami
by of this city; one brother, Ora
L. Lamson of San Jose, Calif.,
and seven grandchildren. The re
mains rest in the Earl Whltlock
Funeral home, Pine street at

Life Lost in Air
Collision of Bombers
WALLA WALLA, Aug. 20 UP)
Two army four-englned bombers
collided In flight and crashed
between Redmond and Madras,
Oregon, yesterday with the loss
of one life, public relations of
ficer at the Walla Walla air
field announced last night.
The-single victim failed to
leave the plane from which all
other crew members parachuted
safely. The pilot of the second
plane crashlanded and crew
members were able to walk away
from the spot, although the
plane was considered a total loss.
