FOREST FIRES destroy precious war material
billions of board fast of timber. They cripple
watersheds on which industries depend for pow
er. They endanger farm lands that grow food for
freedom.
They also help the enemy much more direct-
ly!
Smoke from forest fires slows up training
programs for pilots and bombardiers. It blinds
offshore fliers on patrol. It makes many a "field
day" for Axis submarines.
And fighting forest fires steals manpower we
need in plants and on farms.

Here is ONE way to help shorten the war:
PREVENT FOREST FIRES. Don't kid yourself
that "good" people don't start them. They do
with vengeance. More than 200,000 forest fires
every year.
So when you go into the woods, remember
the four simple rules illustrated here. See that
others in your party observe them. Remember:
It's on awful feeling to know that you have
helped the enemy.
' ATTENTION BRUSH BURNERS
More than 6 million acres are burned yearly,
because of YOUR careless use of fire in clearing
plow land and burning logging and other slash
and debris. DO YOUR PART THIS YEAR!
REMEMBER:
1. Don't burn without a permit from a rang
er or fire warden.
2. Don't burn during unusually hot, dry, or
windy weather.
3. Scrape a trail or "plow around" areas to
be burned.
