NEW YORK, June 30 (P)
Encouraging events on the war
front generated a selective buy
ing interest In today's stock mar
ket in which air transports,
chemicals, and specialties
achieved the best gains.
Steels, motors, aircrafts and
rails failed to make the grade al
though some of these registered
minor gains. In the favored de
partments advances ranged from
fractions to more than a point
near the close. Transactions to
taled around 900,000 shares.
Strength in commodities sup
ported inflationary ideas in Wall
street
Widest advances were regis
tered by Eastern Airlines, Ameri
can Airlines, Pan American Air
ways, Schenley Distillers, Mor
rosi and Essex, Montgomery
Ward, Dow Chemical, Du Pont,
Allied Chemical. J. C. Penney,
and DeVoe and Raynolds.
Also on the up sioe were Con
solidated Edison, Public Service
of N. J., Montgomery Ward, Gen
eral Electric, Westinghouse and
U. S. Rubber.
Rails were slightly ahead In
the bond market.

broad buying movement develop
ed in grains today and prices of
wheat and rye spurted about 2
cents, while oats gained about a
cent. Mills and commercial in
terests were active in the wheat
pit, sending quotations to the
highest level since early April.
With commission houses and
local traders on the buying side,
rye advanced to new peaks since
1937. Profit taking was heavy
at times, but was surmounted
without difficulty. Oats were at
new seasonal tops.
Wheat closed li-21c higher,
July $1,461-1, September $1,461
1, oats were up l-lic, July 691c,
and rye was ahead 21-21 cents.
