Langell Valley
Tim Twomey, second victim of
tick fever reported in Lake coun
ty this year, was admitted to
Lakeview public hospital Sun
day night. Twomey, who had
been tending his flock of sheep
on the desert near Plush, came
to Lakeview over, the weekend
as he had not been feeling well
for several days.
' Cecil Aldridge on New Pine
creek died Wednesday evening
about 5 o'clock from injuries re
ceived while at work in the mill
of the Crane Creek Lumber com
pany at Willow ranch. The acci
dent happened about 4:40 Wed
nesday afternoon and, while he
was rushed immediately to the
hospital here, died before he
reached Lakeview.
Announcement was made this
week that Robert Belknap of
Junction City had been hired as
principal of Central school, the
position left vacant with the res
ignation of Paul Goddard. Belk
nap has been teaching at Junc
tion City for the past three and
one-half years. He is a graduate
of Oregon College of Education
at Monmouth.
The inevitable high water that
comes every year down the can
yon hit the New Pine Creek com
munity Tuesday with a bang, as
sort of an after-beat to the first
spell of heavy rain which began
early Sunday morning. The swol
len creek vith its muddy turbu
lent waters endeavored to spread
itself Into the typical alluvial
fan shape aa it surged out of the
canyon into the valley, filling up
some basements, washing out
gardens, and making itself a gen
eral nuisance to those living

John Wesley Meyers, a resi
dent of this community for 29
years, died at the relief home
here Tuesday. He was born in
San Jose, Calif., on November
17, 1872, coming here to work as
a ranch hand. .
John J. O'Keeff e, well-known
and highly respected sheepman

Monday evening at his sheep
camp in that vicinity.
Last rites were held at Paisley
Saturday for William Henry
Tucker, who died Thursday at
the Lakeview hospital. Services
were in charge of the Masonic
lodge of which Mr. Tucker had
been a member for many years.
Burial was in the Paisley ceme
tery. .
Corporal Albert Jacob Dains,
son of Mrs. Ruth Bellus of Lake
view, is a prisoner of the Japa
nese government, according to
an announcement by the navy ,
department .Tuesday. Corporal
Dains was a member of the U. S.
marine corps personnel and was
one of 952 officers and enlisted
personnel listed as prisoners in
the latest bulletin of the navy
department.
Rod Waters has been honored
by a visit from his younger
brother, Howard, who is in the
U. S. army air force. Howard
has been in the service ' some
time and was stationed at Pearl
Harbor at the time of the bomb
ing. He also saw. service in the
Battle of Guadalcanal, and does
not know how many Japs he di
rectly or indirectly was responsi
ble for killing.
Among' the list of boys who
have been accepted by the army
recruiting station in Lake coun
ty's last draft call are three
brothers, Tanji, Kenjl and Yuji
Nakagama, who, until recently
have been operating the Lake
county steam laundry. Also ac
cepted by the army were Lloyd
D. Hortsman, Denzil L. Conley,
Wayne E. Grisel, Adrian L.
Branch and Laurence V. Dead
mond. Orville O. Arzner failed
to pass the physical examination
and returned to Lakeview. Also
accepted was George R. Roper
who entered the Seabee. .
