EVERYBODY'S IN A HURRY these days. War workers driving
to and from work at all hours of the day and night ... farmers
.. bringing needed food supplies to market . . . thousands of new
drivers on streets already crowded . . . many of them in a celebrat
ing mood and not as carefu.1 as they might be.
Under these conditions accidents are unavoidable. It takes two
drivers to make an accident. But in all too many cases the driver
most to blame is unable to pay for the damage he causes;
The new Oregon Motor 'Vehicle Safety-Responsibility Law is dcj
signed to protect the motoring public from such situations.
The essential provisions of the law are simple . . . easily understood.
After June 9, you MUST report any accident where property dam
age occurs, even a dented fender. If you have automobile insurance
be sure to report the accident to your insurance agent, in addition
to the traffic authorities. After you have had an accident you will be
required to furnish proof of financial responsibility in the amount
of $11,000, otherwise your driver's license and your car license will
be .revoked.
The law is positive on this point and it applies to both resident and;
non-resident drivers.
You have your choice of three ways to establish the required nnanl
cial responsibility:
l) Post $11,000 in cash or securities
2) Provide a surety bond for the amount
3) Carry an automobile insurance policy (uMrre
The law does not compel you to buy insurance. The choice lies en
tirely with you. Of course car insurance is the easiest, cheapest J
and least complicated way to protect yourself.
If you already have a standard limits automobile insurance policyj
I this law does not affect you.
If it would be difficult for you to put up $11,000 in cash or securM
ties, or to provide a surety bond, by all means take out automobilt j
I insurance NOW! .
