Mrs. Clarence A, Humble, worthy matron, read a poem filled with praise and appreciation of the services of those who have labored through the years in the interests of the Order; Mrs. George Hillis and Mrs. Violet Moore sang a duet, "My. Task," by Ashford; an impressive floral ceremony culminating In the presentation of flowers to all past matrons and patrons, was carried out by the star points, worthy matron and asso ciate matron. Taking part in this feature were: Mrs. Ted Huey, Mrs. James Rackenor, Mrs. How ard LIstoe, Mrs. James Hun ter, Mrs. Herman Gisvold, Mrs. Wilbur Arnold, Mrs. Arthur Dickson, and Mrs. Humble. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Hillis closed this cere mony with a delightful rendi tion of a duet, "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life." Mrs. Charles Joseph Mar tin, president of ' the Past Matron club introduced her officers, Mrs. Elizabeth Nor nis, vice-president, and Mrs. A. B. Epperson, secretary and treasurer, and thanked the chapter for the entertainment and delightful evening honor ing the past officers of the Order. Past matrons present in cluded Mrs. Charles Joseph. Simmonds, associate "patron of Oriental chapter. No. 5, of Lakeview. During the regular session of chapter, degrees of the Order were conferred on Mrs. E. S. Robinson, Mrs. Sanford C. Selby, and Mrs. Glen B. Inman. Mrs. Selby was presented with an East ern Star jewel, the gift of her husband. Mrs. Casper made the presentation. Refreshments were served in the downstairs dining room at tables arranged in a"V" for victory style. Decorations' were artistic arrangements of lilacs, tulips and iris. In charge of this feature were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ostendorf, Mrs. Lula Hutchens, Mrs. Lena Laurenson, and Mrs. Walter Beane. Mrs. Humble announced that the next meeting, June the eighth, will be near Flag Day, and the ohapter will dedicate the new flag at this time, in keeping with this pa triotic season. MRS. LAMB SPEAKS ON VICTORY GARDENS The executive board of I h e Woman's Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist church met on Thursday, May the twenty seventh, at half past one o'clock in the church parlors, and at two o'clock the gen eral business meeting was called to order by the presi dent, Mrs. L. K. Phelps. Following this, in the ab sence of Mrs. W. R. Boyd, the scheduled speaker, Mrs. E. D. Lamb of the Garden club spoke upon Victory gar dens and showed some beau tiful slides of wild flowers of Oregon and California which she has taken person ally. Joy Kent sang "Swal low" by Cowan and "To a Hilltop" by Cox; she was ac companied by Mrs. Zumwalt. Mrs. T. B. Powers gave two piano selections, "Stardust" and "That Little' Boy of Mine." Miss James Married Klamath Girl Weds in Madison, Wisconsin On May fourteenth Miss Lillian James, daugh ter of Mrs. Lydia James of 1841 Esplanade street, be came the bride of PFC Frank Niles,- son of Mrs. Lena Gray of Jacksonville, in a cere mony read in Madison, Wis consin on May the fourteenth at eleven o'clock in the morn ing. The bride wore a powder blue suit with navy blue and white accessories for the oc casion. She left Klamath Falls on May the seventh for Madison where she met Pri vate Niles. The young couple will make their home at 612 East Gorham street in Madison where the groom is in the air force at Truax field. Mr. Lee Jacobs was the speaker. He emphasized the fact that too much emphasis cannot be placed on the splen did work that is being done voluntarily by the local ration ing boards. He stated that the OPA as such only carries out the orders of the various boards set up In the war pro gram Ickes at the head of the gasoline control, Jeffers for the rubber control, etc. He stated that whether OPA stands or falls, rationing must and will continue. The group felt as a result of Mr, Jacobs' talk the impor tance of complete cooperation with the program. Reverend Milam is a re tired minister, for many years a missionary here in the west, and he has supplied the pulpit of the First Bap tist church at different times.
