Ration Program Organized
For New Pressure Cookers
A rationing program to alio
cate this county's share of the
130,000 war model pressure
cookers being made this year is
being organized through the
county farm rationing commit
tee, Burrell Short, chairman of
the county USDA war board, an
nounced yesterday.
A subcommittee of four wom
en who are leaders in the home
economics field is being set up to
assist the county farm rationing
committee. This subcommittee
will review all applications and
determine who is eligible for
new pressure cooker.
Dates when applications will
be received will be set later, and
adequate notice given so that
everyone who wants a pressure
cooker will have a chance to ap
ply, Short said. Neither the
pressure cook or s nor the appli
cation forms are avnilnble now.
Because demand for the cook'
ers is expected to greatly exceed
tha supply, rationing will have
to be on the basis of greatest
use in home canning of vege
tables requiring pressure cook'
ing processing. For that reason,
more consideration will be given
to applications from "neighbor
hood pools'' and organizations.
At least six families should be
able to use one pressure cooker,
and sharing agreements of this
kind will be required for most
applications.
The pressure cookers will be
made with enameled steel, bot
toms and tin-plated steel tops.
Most of them will be the 7-quart
size, with a few in the H-quart
size.
CPT APPRECIATES
from the auxiliary who will be
on the streets throughout the
day.
A letter from Harold M. Sher
man, squadron commander, war
training service, Summers
school, in behalf of his men and
himself was received here.
thanking various business men
and organizations for donations
made to their recreation room.
Furniture, recreation equip
ment, radios, books, etc., have
been given for the use of the
CPTs.
"These men have little time
for recreation, and the facilities
are a real contribution to their
few hours of relaxation," the let
ter said in part.
