Klamath Youth '-Takes Portland Girl as Bride in
Famous New York Chapel
The Little Church Around the Corner In New York was
the scene of a wedding which occurred April the seventh,
when Miss Nancy Hall Gardner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Curtis Alan Gardner of Portland, became tho bride of Corp.
Lester Edwin Thayer, son of Mrs. Edna Hastings of this city.
The bride, given In marriage by her uncle, Mr. Floyd H.
Gardner, chose a checked taffeta dressmaker suit with black
and white accessories for her
wedding costume. Mrs. Gard
ner was her niece's attendant.
The service was read by the
Rev. Randolph Ray.
The young couple, known
to the college set here, will
make their home at Presque
Isle, Maine, where Corporal
Thayer is serving with the
priorities division of the
transport command.
Both are former University
of Oregon students, the bride
receiving her degree this past
March. Sho Is a member of
Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
The groom attended the uni
versity for two years and was
affiliated with Sigma Phi Ep
silon. Until he entered the
service, Corporal Thayer was
with United Airlines in Port
land. .

April. She praised members
for their excellent response.

In her talk, Mrs. Small
emphasized the importance of
protection of wild birds,
pointing out their value' as a
friend to man. . She also
showed a number of beauti-
ful screen pictures of wild
birds of the Pacific North
west. "
Mrs. Rose Poole, president,
told of her visit to the San
Francisco Soroptimist club
last week, and of having din
ner with the national presi
dent of the federation, Har
riet Tyler, at her home on the
peninsula.
A letter was read from
Miss Beverly Sanders who is
. a machinist second class in
the Waves, stationed at Mem-
phis, Tennessee. Miss Sanders
is a former member of the
Venture club.

Texas, where' they witnessed
tho graduotion ceremonies of
American flyers, are Mr. and

happy to learn on their ar
rival that their son, now
Lieutenant Robert Veatch,
had been granted a twenty
day leave, and "Bob" Is now
at home for that time. He
has been assigned to the troop
carrier command and will be
stationed at Del Valle field,
near Austin, Texas.
