BLOCK LEADER
DUTIES TOLD
OFFICIAL TABLE OF CONSUMER POINT VALUES FOR MEAT, FATS, FISH, AND CHEESE
No. 2 Effective May 2, 1943
COMMODITY
BEEF
BYCHAIRMAN
The block leaders serve with
the sector lender and assume re
sponsibility for carrying out all
tasks assigned to the sector in
the way of necessary war activi
ties, says Mrs. O. K. Puckett,
chairman of block leader coun
oil. in explaining duties.
Records of names, addresses.
and telephone numbers should
be kept by each block leader of
the families in her immediate
area, so that when a particular
program is to be put on, wheth
er it be one ol consumer inter
ests, salvage, transportation,
child care, nutrition, or war
savings, she will know which
one of her group would be the
one to call on for help in putting
the program through. As time
goes on, all of these issues will
come up, and we are urged to at
tend all instruction meetings
possible, in order to be prepared
for these emergencies. .
There will be radio programs
and feature articles in the press,
. also pamphlets of explanatory
material given to block leaders
for distribution to each family
in her group, according to Mrs.
Puckett.
When a project is launched,
the block leader should send in
a report to her sector or precinct
leader as to the progress being
made in her immediate group.
Salvage of rubber, tin and fats
is a continuous drive. Transpor
tation, child care, housing, con
sumer Interests, and aid to men
in the armed services are also
continuous programs.

HOME
Well, fellas, its been a pretty
quiet week here at home, the
chief noise being the splattering
of rain ... A lot of it fell the
past few days.
It was a big week in the, war
bond business ... County war
bond sales for April, including
the purchase by banks, ran over
$4,000,000 ... A big smoker at
the armory finished off the week
... In the headline event, Fred
Ross, Klamath Falls, knocked
out Elton Lundy, Gilchrist ...
HUHS and Chiloquin lads fur
nished competition for numerous
boxing and wrestling events
War bonds and stamps were re
quired for admission.
Meat rationing is still in ef
fect,' and unrationed buffalo and
elk have made appearance in a
restaurant and at a local meat
counter ... Klamath farmers
have ' started planting 23,000
acres to potatoes . . . Pine work
ers in this area will soon be get
ting 7i cents an hour retroactive
pay.
As we have said, it was a pret
ty quiet week . . . We'll prob-
ably have more to report next
time.
I am convinced that the pent
up, starved demand for consu
mer's goods and the potential
purchasing power available ' in
the hands of consumers have all
the makings of a post-war boom,
the greatest boom we have ever
had. The big problem will be
that of inflation. Carl H. Hen
drickson, commerce department
consultant.
