Greeley said a house commit
tee had sliced to less than
$2,800,000 an appropriation of
$3,989,732 recommended by the
U. S. forest service and the bud
get bureau.
An additional $8,000,000, pro
vided last year under tho sixth
supplemental national defense
appropriation act, is needed
again this year to meet the threat
of sabotage and more enemy
bombings, he said.
The budget bureau holds that
coastal forest protection Is the
army's responsibility and its ap

funds, Greeley said, but as yet
there Is no indication that the
money will be supplied by the
army.
