W. Brown. The new officers, Mrs. Harry Frazier, president, and Mrs. F. W. Brown, secretary and treasurer, will preside. The roll call will be answered with the name of a vegetable best suited for this community, and a planned ' program for the year will be discussed. It is hoped there will be a large attendance at the meetings this season as not only are Victory gardens a real necessity but a patrio tic gesture as well. While food gardening will be stressed, there will still be sometime given to beautify ing the home with flowcrt and shrubs. Everyone is invited to come to every meeting, as only by proper planning, seeding and cultivation can we achieve the highest goal in supplying our food needs. Altamont Troop Busy Girl Scouts Make Book lets for Red Cross Chapter Crater Lake Troop No. 9,' Girl Scouts, have had a very busy and Interesting year. There are thirty girls in the troop and they meet each Thursday at Altamont Junior high school. Only sixth grade girls belong to this troop. Tenderfoot girls work un der the leadership of Mrs. Vida Hanson and are now completing the required work that will give them second class rank. They are making individual scrap books in which they will record their year's accomplishments. They have made booklets contain ing stories for the Red Cross. A study will be made of the history of the U. S. flag and flag etiquette and it will keep this group of girls busy if they complete the work outlined for the year. The more advanced girls are working on first class badges under the leadership of Mrs. Emma Carter. Along with their badge work they are helping in the war effort by working on projects for the Red Cross. Early in the year the girls sold cookies and Christmas cards to raise money for themselves 'and the county council. They have contrib uted to national headquarters toward a fund for war or phans and are planning to give pennies to the amount of the years they are of age for the Juliette Low fund. Troop No. 9 took part In the birthday week program at the Fremont school by pre senting a skit. Nadine Guyer, who took the part of Uncle Sam, did 'especially well. They were well represented at "Scouts' Own" at the Wil lard hotel. Several activities are planned for the near future. The Veterans of Foreign Wars have sponsored . the Crater" Lake troop for two years.' This organization makes it possible for the lead ers to present the awards earned by the girls without charge to the Scouts. . TNT BRIDGE .
