the three Columbia river dams

wutts of power,
"The potentialities of the Pa
clflc Northwest region may be
nearly 19 times that amount,"

eight other reservoirs are con

river system and that proposals
for "at least 75 additional reser
voirs are under consideration
and many more undoubtedly

Tho crew of a U. S. army Flying
Fortress on reconnaissance shot
down four Japanese Zero fight
ers south of Gasrnata, enemy
base on New Britain Island, and
returned home yesterday after
noon for a safe landing despite
tho fact that all Its four officers
had been wounded,
A fifth Japanese fighter was
reported probably destroyed out
of a flight of nine which am
bushed the American plane from
a cloud formation.
The wounded pilot, whose
name was withheld with those
of other wounded officers by
army regulations, had to be held
flat on his back after being
struck In the arm, thigh, and
back and the plane was landed
by a co-pilot who had been
struck in the chin and neck.
The navigator and bombar
dier, both officers, were wound
ed also, but all the enlisted men,
who actually accounted for the
heavy toll of Japanese planes,
escaped unscathed.

ison, of Corvallls. Ore., stepped
in to help the co-ptlot with the
difficult landing.
