American shipyards delivered
130 new mcrchunt ships totaling
1,230,200 dead weight tons in
February, tho maritime commis
sion announced today, a new rec
ord.
This brought to 233 ships, to
taling 2,247,800 deadweight tons,
the construction in tho first two
months of this year, exceeding
the number of ships delivered
during tho first six months of
1042.
Types
This year's goal Is 18,000,000
deadweight tons, but govern
ment officials have Indicated it
may be Increased to about 18,
000,000 tons if . sufficient ma
terials are available. Production
last year slightly exceeded 8,
000,000 deadweight tons.
Ships delivered In February
Included 81 Liberty ships, 15 C
type cargo vessels, nino tankers,
23 special types, ono concrete
barge and one coastal cargo ship.
