ent war, Ma. Gen. Ulysses S.
Grant, grandson of the civil war
leader, said here last night.
"Countries which have pre
pared only for what they
thought most likely to happen
have been destroyed," he said.

pared by KUHS students will
be. displayed in the high school
auditorium, carrying the names
of boys who are graduates of
the class of 1939 up to 1943
who are members of the national
guard units which left Klamath
Falls prior to the war; boys rcg
istered at KUHS who have quit
school to enter any branch of
the service since war was de
clared and those who entered
the service during the past sum
mer after having completed a
previous semester of school.
The following names have so
far been submitted as eligible.

set as the date for the annual
seniors' banquet and 7:30 p. m
is the tentative time, to allow
for those students who work.
A survey will bo held soon to
get an idea how many will at
tend. The program has not been
planned as yet. The senior par
ents of the Parents and Patrons
club are sponsoring the banquet.

that Den Magic would be pre
sented, but now the news has ar
rived that this is changed to
Bobo Magic. If you wish to
find out anymore about It, you'll
have to go, for we don't know
anymore than you.
A circuit court Jury In Mult
nomah county this week award
ed $25,000 damages to Mildred
Ross, Junction City, as a result
of an automobile accident near
Algoma, Klamath county, on De
cember 27, 1940. .
Defendants in the action were
Frank Hayes, Consolidated
Freightways, Inc., and Albert E.
Ault.
Miss Ross was riding in a car
driven by Hayes which met a
Consolidated Freightways truck
driven by Ault. The truck was
loaded with a sedan automobile.
The truck and Hayes car col
lided, and sedan came to rest
partially on the Hayes automo
bile.
Miss Ross subsequently sued
Hayes, the, truck company, and
Ault, for $45,593 damages,
claiming she was permanently
injured. The Jury awarded her
$25,000. The suit was tried in
Multnomah county. .
WAAC Auxiliary
To Be Here On
Recruiting Job
According to Information re
ceived by the local army recruit
ing office, Auxiliary Nina M.
Kecney of the Women's Army
Auxiliary corps will be in Klam
ath Falls on Thursday, Friday
and Saturday of this week for
the purpose of interviewing ap
plicants for enrollment in the
WAAC's. Lester D. Ottaway,
warrant office (Jg), chief clerk
of the Oregon WAAC recruiting
district, will also be in this city
during the same period.
Auxiliary Keeney is a gradu
ate of the WAAC training center
at Fort Des Moines, la., and will
be glad to answer all questibns
concerning the training and op
portunities offered to all auxili
aries enrolled in the corps.
Interested persons are invited
to visit the army recruiting of
fice, 219 Postofflce building,
where Otta ay and Auxiliary
Keene will assist applicants In
preparing applications and also
to conduct mental alertness tests.

Takes Third Place
In Poetry Contest '
A former student of the South
ern Oregon college, and graduate
of Tulelake high school, Grace
Thrasher of Kerby, . won third
place in the annual Ted Olson
poetry contest, sponsored by the
American Quill club, it was an
nounced this week. The poem.
which deals with an aspect of
economic life in the northwest.
was first published in the Ore
gon Education Journal. It will
be published again In the
"Parchment," monthly publics
tlon of tho American College
quill club.
Miss Thrasher wrote the poem
as a student in advanced com
position in the Southern Oregon
college. She received her de
gree last year. Her home Is at
present in Jackson county.
