Idaho certified seed potatoes

Interest in seed potatoes from
outside the state has been great

The report suggested that the
recent action of the food distri

(jT Fir and plywood plants of
the Pacific northwest were un
der orders today to give retro
active pay Increases to employes
who did not get them December
17.
On that date the west coast
lumber commission ordered a 90
cent wage minimum, retroactive
to May 1 in some cases. This
resulted generally In a 7i-cent
hourly Increase and the commis
sion ordered It extended to the
higher wage brackets.
Some employers protested
they already had given increases
in some of the higher brackets
and the additional raises would
throw wage scales out of line.
Pine Adjustment
The commission rejected this
protest yesterday on the grounds
there was no established pay
standard In the upper brackets.
Chairman Ben H. Kizer said,
however, research is continuing
with the hope of setting industry-wide
standards in, the
future.
In another decision, applying
to both pine and fir regions, the
commission authorized tempor
ary piece rate Increases when
ever snow conditions cut fallers'
and buckers' earnings below
normal. Such temporary ad
justments need no longer be re
ported to the commission, Kizer
said, although fallers and buck
ers must agree to the pay
changes.

WASHINGTON, March 3 (IP)
Representatives of the nation's
poultrymen, dairymen and live
stock feeders urged before the
house agriculture committee
Tuesday enactment of legislation
to sell an additional 100,000,000
bushels of government owned
wheat for stock feed.
Describing corn and protein
feeds except wheat as "alarming
ly scarce," one witness said that
unless action "at the earliest
possible hour" is taken to relieve
the shortage, liquidation of the
poultry and dairy industries
threatens.
Edwin T. Benson, executive
secretary of the national council
of farm cooperatives, asserted
"the feed situation is becoming
Increasingly serious. We hope
the committee will take favor
able action at the earliest pos

WASHINGTON, March 3
Some time ago, before OPA even
had a dummy or ration book No.
3, up popped a story that a
clothes ration book was ready
for distribution. The usual ver
sion said that a woman lost her
sugar ration book and wrote to
OPA in Washington for a new
one. By return mail she received
a ration book entitling her to $80
worth of clothes a year.
Whereupon so the phoney
tale goes the OPA realizing its
mistake, begged her to return
the book and never, never men
tion the fact that she had seen it.
The FBI is now working on
this story because It follows very
closely German propaganda
broadcasts over short-wave to
America. The nazis would like
American housewives to hoard
everything, because they know
that the more hoarding, the soon
er we'll have bad Inflation.
OPA refutes the story thus: 1.
OPA in Washington does not is
sue ration books. The woman
would have gone to her local ra
tion board for her sugar book.
2. When and if clothes rationing
comes, it will be done on the
point system, not by setting lim
its on the amount an Individual
may spend. 3. FBI is suspicious
of any story which breaks simul
taneously in six large cities the
way this one did.

Pacific coast motor carriers
were told today by the Office of
Defense Transportation that in
order to get government help in
obtaining spare parts they must
immediately take definite steps
to restrict mileage operations to

Marshall E. Nauman, district
manager of ODT s Division of
Motor Transportation said that
over-ine-roaa contract ana com

competition through action
agreements resulting in joint use
of equipment and facilities by

To aid carriers In developing
such plans, Nauman said that
ODT advisory committees, in
eluding representatives of the
carriers and ODT, are being set
up in all principal Pacific coast
points served by more than one
carrier.
