CO Nil HUES ON
DAYS MARKET
. By VICTOR EUBANK
-NEW YORK, Jan 15 (AP)
Stocks continued the upswing
today with the market, on aver
age, hitting best levels since Oct.
6, 1941, and volume attaining
the largest total for the current
year,
Part of the advance, brokers
suggested, was Inspired by In
vestors with sizable Idle funds
who bought actual and potential
dividend payers as a means of
alleviating the greatest income
tax demands in history.
Thursday's late rally was ex
tended at the start in active
dealings. Gains at the best rang
ed from fractions to 3 points.
Prices generally were around
their tops in the final hour.
Transfers approximated 900,000
shares.

WHEAT
CHICAGO, Jan. 15 AP)
Oats led a strong advance in
the grain market today with
gains of more than a cent a
bushel to new high "prices for
the season. Wheat, corn and rye
were up about as much.
Buying of oats was associated
with large scale demand for feed
ing grain. and meagerness of re
ceipts coming to market. Flour
business helped to lift wheat and
further - good . shipping sales
strengthened corn. :
Although the day's top paces
could not be maintained due to
late profit taking, wheatclosed
i-i cent, higher than yesterday,
May $1,398-1, July $1.39S-J;
corn l-li higher, May 981, July
98i-l; oats i-li up. May 581-1;
