time and world conflict, the Georgia Bulldog and the UCLA
Bruins helped ring in the new year today on the tough but
friendlier field of football the Rose bowl classic.
Whether there will be another college "bowl" game until
the fight for democracy Is settled is debatable but the 1943 re
newal of the grandpappy of all the post-season gridiron spec
tacles claimed the attention of some 93,000 fans.
Two flat feet and a pair of sprained ankles had tens of thou
sands mumbling in what amounted to double talk, although
moro serious battles were being fought In other parts of the globe.

According to local fishing ex
perts, good catches are being ex
perienced in the Klamath river,
which Is open in Oregon until
the last of May. Some anglers
are having best results with flies,
though every kind of lure from
trout-oreno's on down is being
used.
Upper Klamath lake, which is
open south of Eagle Ridge and
Modoc Point until the end of the
Oregon fishing season in May,
holds good catches on cluster
eggs, say local fishermen.
