slaught, but the mid-day com
munique said the enemy, under

southwest, suffering heavy

No Faltering
There was no faltering in the
two offensives already under
way when tho new storm was
loosed on the Germans, the
communique reported. The red
army continued to drive for
ward in the Rzhcv area on the
central front, and the communi
que said 500 Germans were
killed in a bitter fight for a
strongly fortified German posi
tion in one sector.
In the Stalingrad area, too,
there was heavy fighting, with
the Germans counterattacking
viciously both northwest and
southwest of the " city and the
Russians stubbornly protecting
their gains and pressing for
more.

The bag was so satisfactory
that it entailed an extended re
view of individual claims, air
force headquarters said, adding
that its tally still showed six
bombers missing.
Flying southward over Paris,
where many of the American air
men had their first glimpse of
the Eifel tower, the four-motored
bombers soon were beyond range
of their protecting fighters. Then
large formations of German
Focke-Wulf 190s dived to the
attack.

Lyman Eugene (Gone) Arney,
a resident of Klumath county
for tho past 20 years, and of
Kcno, Ore,, for the last 8 months,
passed away In that city on Sun
day, December 20, 1942. Tho
deceased was a native of Weed,
Calif., and was aged 25 years
8 months and 13 days when cull
ed. He was a member of F.O.E.
Klamath Falls Aorle No. 2090.
He is survived by his wife,
Dorothy Louise; one daughter,
Marylyn Gennettc, of Kcno,
Ore.; his father, B. O. Arney
and his mother, Grace; one
brother, Bernard of Portland,
Ore.; one sister, Verna Ander
son .of Lakeview, Ore. The re
mains rest in Ward's Klamath
Funeral home, 925 High street,
where friends may call. The no
tice of the funeral arrangements
will be announced later,
