MILWAUKEE, Oct. 13 (IP)
Mrs. Norbort Klein, chairman of
a Milwaukee town hall program
committee, snld Monday that
Col. Hugh J. Knerr, retired for
mer chief of staff of the general
headquarters army air force, was
unable to appear at town hall
meeting last night because of an
order from Secretary Btlmson.
Mrs. Klein said that Col
Knerr telegraphed her and
stated that Secretary Stlmson
had given the following orders:
- "You are dlrectod to refrain
from all public addresses, writ
ten words and all comments on
the conduct of the war and
questions relating to tha tactical
use and organizational relation'
ship of the armed forces of the
united States and hor allies.
Col. Knerr wired that in "com
pllance with this order, I will not
be able to appear at town hall,"
Mrs. Kloln said. "My apologies,"
tha telegram added, "for a policy
that reserves freedom of ex-
presslon to but one sldo of the
question and denies truo air
powor to tha United States."

The passing of another south
ern Oregon pioneer was learned
here Tuesday when death of
Mrs. Ed Bond of Ashland was
reported to nor mother, B. S.
"Back" Grigsby of this city.
Mrs. Bond died lata Monday
night In Ashland following a
lengthy illness. She was the
youngest of a family of eight
children born to Henry and
Anna" Marloh Grlsby, Jackson
county pioneers who crossed
the plains Jn tho Into '00s from
thoir home in Missouri.
' Ollle Mae Grlsby was born In
Jackson county 60 years ago.
Sho married Ed Bond and for
45 years the family lived in the
Plush and Warner sections of
Lake county where they ranched
and ran cattle. For 20 years of
that time they operated on the
west sido of Lakevlew. Two
years ago Mr." and Mrs. Bond
rcllrprt and moved to' Ashland.
Mrs. Bond's death' followed a
lengthy Illness.
In addition to Mr. Bond, a
Hunuhtnr. Mrs: Rubv Rundcll
of Ashland, one brother," B. S.
Grigsby, and a half brother,
Charles Thomas of -Wlnlock,;
Wosh., survive. -
Funeral services will be held
in Lokevlcw Wednesday after
noon with burial in the ceme
tery there. Among. those who
plan to attend the final rites
are Mr. Gragsby, his four
daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth San
ders, Mrs.' Ida Grimes, Mrs.
O. L. Brown and Mrs. Henry
Grimes, and an old family
friend, Mrs. Ivy Fropst.

Navy Calls for
Qualified Engineers -
SEATTLE, Oct. 13 (P) The
13th naval district staff head
quarters Monday made a special
call for graduate engineers and
mon with construction experi
ence, for organization of soveral
mora construction battalions.
Each such battalion requires 16
commissioned and 10 warrant
officers, said Capt. W. J. Giles,
director of officer procurement
for this district.
Commissioned officers should
havo a college degree in electri
cal, mechanical, civil or archi
tectural engineering, . though
men with outstanding experience
of mora than 15 years may sub
stitute It for the educational re
quirement. All officers must be
field men. No draftcsmcn, of
fice men or architects are need
ed. Cantaloupes were named for
