Lumber production for the week
ended July 11 was 126 per cent
of the average for the cor
responding week, 1935-39, and
shipments were 156 per cent, the
National Lumber Manufacturers
association reported yesterday.
Totaling 245,247,000 feet, pro
duction was 10 per cent greater
than the previous week but nine
per cent less than the corres
ponding week a year ago:
Shipments aggregated 380,
603,000 feet, six per cent great
er than the previous week and
five per cent larger than last
year's corresponding week.
Orders were booked for 314,
802,000 feet, 17 per cent greater
than the previous week, and one
per cent larger than the same
week last year.

Seattle at $7.83 a thousand feet
for Douglas fir.

tional losses today.
After an early decline under
the leadership of wheat, where
hedge selling dropped quotations
more than a cent shortly after
the opening, prices rallied on
short covering. There was
small amount of mill buying in
the wheat pit. Quotations de
clined again Just before the
close.
At the close wheat was down

of doubtful war news, anti-Inflationary
talk and threats of
higher corporation taxes al
though real liquidation never
appeared.
The ticker tape loafed
throughout and, while small
plus marks were in evidence
here and there at the close,
minor declines were plentiful.
Transfers for the two hours of
around 100,000 shares were
among the lowest In the past
year or so.
Bonds were narrow. Major
commodities Inclined to slip.
Stocks under water most of
the session included U. S. Steel,
Chrysler, Montgomery Ward, In
ternational Harvester, Union Pa
cific, Loew's, General Electric,
Westinghouse, U. S. Rubber and
American Telephone.
Mild resistance was displayed
by Bethlehem, Santa Fe, Good
rich, General Motors and East
