KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON Mnrch 10, 1043 Masiheti and fyinanciat GRAINS DECLIKE BY CHICAGO, March 19 (VP) Grain futures lost major frac tions in early trading today and then held within a narrow range for the remainder of the session. Trading was at a slow pace. " Offerings in wheat appeared to be of a liquidating character and the market was not featured by any important news. There was no evidence of mill buying . on the decline, but contracts steadied after losses of nearly a cent. Other cereals and soybeans sagged along with wheat. Rye futures sustained losses about equal with that of wheat. This pit, however, was comparatively quiet and considerably more or derly than in yesterday's late break. . V. 85 Proof mm HSU'S STOCK MARKET T GOOD SPIRITS NEW YORK, March 19 VP) Mac Arthur cheer continued as a stock market prop today but it was not sufficient to put the list back on the rallying track of Tuesday. The comforting angle of the day's "performance was the evi dent reluctance of a number of pivotal stocks to give ground and the notable drying up f selling. Transfers of around 300,000 shares were among die smallest since last June. Dow Chemical and Homestake broke to new lows for the year, with the former especially weak. In the retreating division were Union Carbide, Allied Chemical, Eastman Kodak, DuPont, Texas Co., American Telephone, Chesa peake and Ohio and Air Reduc tion. Some resistance was exhibited by US Steel, Bethlehem, Santa Fe, American Smelting. General Motors, Goodyear, Sperry, Johns-Manville, Anaconda and Woolworth. Gold stocks reflected the thought mining operations would be restricted by the war while apprehension regarding the impact of rising costs and taxes on chemical company divi dends tended to chill the. latter.
