Disputes Claim
Of AFL Union

workers of America, Monday
said that he believed IS AFL
challenges In last week's Weyer
haeuser Timber company elec
tion were without foundation
and covered In Section 8 of the
nation labor relation board's
original election direction.
Wilbur Yeoman of AFL's
Lumber and Sawmill Workers
union had earlier announced
that the AFL would protest the
election, which has apparently
been won by the CIO, on the
basis that 19 of his challenges
were not accepted by Lewis
Penfield, NLRB election agent
Yeoman said that 19 workers,
whose votes his union chal
lenged, were only part time em
ployes and that most of them
are now working for other em
ployers and will probably not re
turn to the Weyerhaeuser pay
roll. Brown, In his statement,
pointed to the original NLRB
direction, which stated that "it
appears that many of the con
struction crew (covering the
men in question) return to work
each year at the resumption of
operations and that the company
attempts to reemploy Its former
construction workers. Under
these circumstances, It appears
that these employes fall In the
category of employes temporar
ily laid oft and that, therefore,
they will be eligible to vote In
the election under the terms of
our usual direction, which In
cludes as eligible any employes
temporarily laid off."
He said that he did not bellove
the board would reverse Its orln-
Inal direction which had bean
accepted by both unions and the
company.

cause of 14 other challenged
votes which were accopted by
