Absentee Ballots
SALEM, Ore., March 16 (UP)
Confusion over the voting eligi
bility of soldiers today prompted:
clarification of the situation by

tary of state's office. '
Soldiers stationed in Oregon
are not eligible to vote in this
state unless they actually ar
residents of Oregon, he said, un
der a constitutional limitation. -
Soldiers who are residents and
who are stationed elsewhere,
however, are entitled to vote by
absent ballot, he explained.
The law requires that the sol-,
dier merely write his eounty
clerk within 80 days before elec
tion. The clerk is required to
mail the ballot at least 10 days
before election and the soldier
must retu-.i it within Uv days,
preceding the election.
