FHUIT HUT BREAD
(Eleanor Johnson)
One-half cup dried apricots, 2
cups fluur, leuspoon suit, 2
teuepoons baking powder, Vi
teaspoon soda, 1 largo orange,
boiling water, cup raisins,
1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons but
ler, melted, 1 egg, beaten, V
cup nut meats, cut fine, 1 tea
spoon vanlllu.
Cover apricots with water
(about 1 cup); soak huif an
hour. Sift und measure; sift
again with salt, buklng powder,
and soda. Squceza Juice from
orange Into a cup and set aside.
Put apricots, orange rind and
raisins through coarse blade of
food chopper. Add enough boil
ing water to orange Juice to
mako one cup, then pour over
ground fruit. Add sugar and
melted butter and mix well.
Add beaten egg, and blend. Add
sifted dry Ingredients, stirring
until Just combined. Then stir
in nuts and vanilla. Pour batter
into a greased loaf pan 0"x5"x
2 V. Bake In slow oven (300
F.) for ono hour, then remove
from pan and place on cake rack
to cool.
GRAHAM CRACKER FUDGE
COOKIES
(Makes 2 dosan 1 W -In. squares)
(Ball Mayor)
Two squares unsweetened
chocoluto 2 ounces), t cup
ovuporuted milk diluted with
cup water, 2 cups sugar, '
teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon but
ter, 24 murshmullows, i cup
nut incuts, cut fine, 2 cups gra
ham cracker crumbs (about W
pound), 1 teaspoon vunillu.
Melt chocolate In saucepan
over a low heat. Add milk di
luted with water, sugar and
suit. Stir only until sugar dis
solves. Cook until syrup will
form a soft "ball when dropped
Into cold water (230 F.) Add
butler und inarshmullows. Let
stand until lukewarm (110' F.)
Then stir until melted marsh
mallows and butter are well
blendud with syrup. Add nuts,
cruckcr crumbs, und vanilla and
mix well. Pock into a woll
greascd, shallow 8 Inch square
pan. Chlil In refrigerator sev
eral hours. Cut Into 1'. 4 -Inch
squares.

Juice, oatmeal, fruit nut
bread, cofce, milk.
LUNCHEON: Tomato Juice,
baked benni, brown bread,
ginger pears, tea. milk.
DINNER: Stuffed breast of
lamb, mashed potatoes, green
beans, stewed fruit, graham
cracker fudge cookies, coffee,
milk.
