Accident Reported Carlcton
O. Brown of Crystal and W. M
Gibson of Fort Klamath reported
a sideswipe collision on the slip
pery pavement south of Fort
Klamath Thursday morning. No
one was injured.
In Hawaii Mrs. Axel Olson of
3008 Denver avenue, Altamont,
received word Friday that her
nephew, L. Andrus, formorly of
Klamuth Falls, is stationed In
the Hawaiian Islands.

Shows Big Increase
SALEM, Jan. 18 OP) State
unemployment compensation
commission collections from em
ployers were 27 per cent greater
during 1841 than during 1940,
while payments to unemployed
were 38 per cent less, the com.
mission said today.
The commission's trust fund
at the end of the year was $18

Three Homes Burn
Near Tillamook
TILLAMOOK, Jan. 16 VP)
Flro yesterday afternoon destroy
ed three homes, a garage and a
new automobile In the Hathaway
Mead suburban district east of
here.
Firemen said the , flames, of
undetermined origin, threatened
a large part of the district be
fore they were checked. The
civilian defense fire reserve,
made up largely of high school
students, assisted the fire de
partment. The homes of Mrs. Elizabeth
Donaldson, Kermlt Bestol and
Lester Cook were destroyed.
Cook's garage ' and car also
burned.
Due to illness, a Kansas wom
an Judge held court in her
home. That's where they usu
ally lay down the law.

recruiting program was about to

NEW MANAGER
Ted L. Fix, above, Is the new
manager of the Firestone Home
and Auto Supply store, which
opened recently at 827 Main
street. Fix, who has been with
Firestone for the past five years,
Is a graduate of Washington
State college. He comes here
from Seaside, where he covered
an outside territory for the com
pany. He la married and has one
boy, a year and one-half old,
and the family has come here to
make their home.
According to Fix, the Fire
stone company plans to estab
lish a tire recapping and retread
ing plant here In the near fu
ture, probably at the rear of the
store.
