fair labor standards act, It was
announced today by Charles II.
Elrey, branch manager of the
wage and hour division, U. S.
department of labor, at the
branch office of the division In
room 208 U. S. courthouse,
Portland.
OIn announcing the payment

This policy hai been approved

wage and hour division In cases
where Investigation discloses

Consolidate Two
Hearings This Year
Due to the emergency situa
tion which exists at tho present
time, tho freight container bu
reau of tho Association of Ameri
can Railroads has considered It
advisable to consolidate two of
Its public hearings scheduled for
the year, tho association an
nounced Friday.
Therefore, the association sold,
the February hearings, previous
ly scheduled to begin on Febru
ary 3, and June hearings set for
June 2, will be consolidated and
held In April. The first hearing
will begin April 7.
The closing date for receipt of
proposols will be March 12 and
tho dockets will be available for
distribution on March 18. All
applications which have been
submitted and set for February
heorlng will be carried over to
April. Tho October docket will
be issued as originally intended.

signed up for civil ulr patrol j
work as organized under the .
United Slules offices of civilian
defense.
Purpose of the CAP Is to
bring civilian aviation into the
total effort of thu United States
to win the war, according to in
formation received by Mox
Guiley, head of the Klamath
Air service.
It is expected a nationwide
training service will be estab
lished for both flight and ground
work. Inxignla is being patent
ed and uniforms designed for
members of the CAP.
A final outline of the work
to bo done by the CAP has not
been announced, but a govern
ment booklet lists many func
tions that might be possible,
such as courier service, back
country observation patrol,

vising him that Ivan Jacobsen,
who was to have spoken on
German concentration camps at
the KU11S auditorium Sunday
evening will be unable to fill
his engagement.
The telegram reads:
"Please advise your commit
tee that Jacobsen Is cancelling
all engagements. He has been
ordered to California by the
Norwegian legation to take up
special work there. Sorry."
Proceeds from the Jacobsen
lecture were to have been used
to supplement the funds for
Little Norway, the Norwegian
air force training camp at To
ronto, Canada.

The final date for voluntary
registration of horses and mules
has been changed from January
10 to January 20. The 10 addi
tional days have been allowed to
permit a more thorough census.
This voluntary registration
was requested recently by the
headquarters, Western Remount
Area, San Mateo, California, to
enable that army agency to de
termine accurately the current
resources of military horses and
mules in the states of California,
Oregon, Washington and Nevada,
as well as the location and own
ership of such animals, so that if
and when needed they may be
quickly purchased and assem
bled for military use.
Horse and mule owners are re
quested to report by card or let
ter no special form is neces
sary to their county agents the
age, sex, color, whether riding
or draft type, whether broken or

army will need in the future can
not yet be determined. How
ever, curtailment of production
in various fields, restrictions on
use of certain essentials and oth
er conditions both foreign and
domestic seem to indicate that
greater reliance mast be placed
on horse power in the immediate
future, both by the military and
those in civilian pursuits. Mill'
tary needs of the most urgent
sort frequently arise overnight.
