Saturday Grant (Portland) at Co rv at lis, Hillsboro at Tillamook, (Eleventh of 12 articles) By JOE FALCARO Greatest Match Cam Bswlcr A positive rather than nega tive approach to bowling is nat urally preferred, but there are some Important don'ts that all bowlers must keep in mind. The position of the hand Is one of the most Important factors in correct bowling. In throwing a hook, a right-handed bowler twists his hand in a counter clockwise direction. Bowlers should guard against letting the hand open and imparting a clock wise twist. This results in a backup ball which Is not effec tive. Don't cross the foul line, even if you are only bowling for fun and will incur no penalty. Bowl the right way at all times. On the other hand, don't try to guard against fouls by releasing your ball half way to the foul line. Don't try to see how fast you can heave the ball. Speed has nothing to do with getting high er scores. Set the ball down. Don't bounce it or loft It down the al ley. The crashing of ball against alley indicates your delivery is not smooth. Take your time. While the pin boy is returning your ball, rest up for your second shot. Don't alternate two balls, throw ing them tn rapid succession. Steer clear of trick shots and fancy deliveries. Stick to the approved form, Bowling takes time and prac tice. Don't get discouraged. Re member, a few fundamentals position of hand, regular foot work, a smooth approach and de livery, an extreme follow through, and angling for spares are the keys to bowling suc cess.
