Price Administration Tells
Who May Obtain New Tires
WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 (UP)
The office of price administra
tion Friday night announced a
limited list of "essential civil
ians" who may obtain new tires
and tubes after January IB from
state and local rationing boards.
Under terms of this first ra
tioning of civilian products to
be invoked by the government,
only physicians, surgeons, visit
ing nurses, veterinarians, ambu
lances, fire and police trucks,
vehicles used for garbage dis
posal, mail services, school buses,
farm tractors and Implements,
some essential trucks and other
essential users may obtain new
tires and tubes.
At the same time the price
administration suggests that mo
torists stop all "unnecessory"
driving to conserve their tires.
No new tires or tubes will be
available for millions of autolsts
who normally purchase a total
of 4,000,000 tires each month.
No restrictions were placed,
however, on sale of used or re
treaded tires or second hand
tubes.
Besides civilian motorists, of
ficials said no tires would be
available for taxicabs and many
other "business" vehicles.
Price Control Administrator
Leon Henderson, who will ad
minister the rationing program,
urged all motorists who will not
receive tires to halt unnecessary
driving and to "double up" in
driving to work. He said all mo
torists could conserve rubber by
reducing driving speeds, keeping
tires properly inflated and by
avoiding injury to tires by hit
ting obstructions.
Here is the way the tires and
tubes will be rationed:
"Would-be purchasers who are
eligible to receive tires must fill
out an application which will be
approved or rejected by author
ized dealers and garagemen who
will report on the condition of
the applicant's tires.

returned to their base today and
reported that the Japanese had
captured them, stolen their
clothes, ordered them to run, and
then had fired at them.
They said they fell to the

portation of employes to or from
industrial, mining establishments
or construction projects except
when public transportation fa
cilities "are already available.''
They also will be available
for trucks operated exclusively
for the transportation of lee,
fuel, materials and equipment
for public roads, public utilities,
production facilities, ' defense
housing projects, military and
naval establishments and ether
essential uses.
They may be purchased for
trucks transporting raw materl
als, semi-manufactured goods
and finished products Including
farm products and foods pro
vided that none shall be used
for:
1. Transportation of commodi
ties to the ultimate consumer
for personal, family or house
hold use.
2. For transportation of ma
terials for construction and
maintenance except those of an
essential nature.

The Japanese propaganda and
gestapo sections, the evacuee
said, are divided- Into six col
umns. Upon occupying a town,
the Japs first send in three col
umns responsible for getting the
"proper propaganda" . to the
people.
The next two columns confis
cate all usable food supplies and
equipment. The sixth column is
known as the "gestapo," which,
the evacuees said, "actually used
the old German atrocity method
of lining up recalcitrant civili
ans against the wall and mowing
them down in order to intimi
date the rest of the towns
people." -
The avtcuees said the Japan
ese brought with them "occupa
tion money" and that no other,
kind may be used in any occu
pied areas. They said the Jap
anese were collecting all genu
ine Filipino currency they could
lay their hands on.
In areas now being defended
bu the USAFFE, the invaders
are trying to win friendship
with the Filipinos by dropping
leaflets from airplanes.
In the area where I now am,
I picked up leaflet. It said: .
"American-made promises and
their so-called righteousness are
approved by nothing but their
own interests and safety Japan
is aiming not only to set the
Filipino free from American
selfish exploitation but bring
forth true peace and prosperity.
Japan does not take you for an
enemy but is due to create a
'Asia for the Asiatics' with your
cooperation and brotherly love."
Bly Club Holds
Christmas Party
BLY The Music and Drama
tlce club had its Christmas party
December 21 at the Frank
Patzke home following an hour
of carol singing about town. A
large tree had been decorated
and placed in a corner under
which everyone present had
placed a gift.
The evening was spent In
playing games and drawing for
gifts. A delicious lunch was
served consisting of sandwiches,
salad, cake and coffee. ' Mrs.
Ralph Ellenberger furnished the
candy although she was unable
to be present. Mr. Raupach and
his son brought plenty of pop
corn for all. There were about
30 people present.
The next meeting of the club ,
will be on January B at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McGlnnls.
