claims for unemployment insur
ance for the 1942 benefit year
will be taken in 23 state em
ployment offices beginning Mon
day, December 22, Administrai
tor Silas Gaiser announced to
day. To be eligible for benefits,
workers must serve two wait
ing weeks after having earned
8200 in covered employment
during the base year that ended
September 30, 1941.
First benefit for the new
year may be drawn for the
week ending January 10, 1942,
if unemployment continues un
interruptedly into the new bene
fit year. Those drawing 1941
benefits during the week end
ing January 3, 1942, may start
drawing 1942 benefits without
serving waiting weeks if they
also are out of work during
the first week of the new bene
fit year and are otherwise
eligible.
A year ago 27,676 claims were
Waken before February 1. Up
to December 6, the commission
received 58,251 claims, of which
4B.430 were found valid. Of
these 12,382 claimants have
drawn their maximum benefits
totalling $1,264,521, while all
payments have reached the sum
total of $2,348,810.
