by many owners of now vehicles,
will soon be absent from tho
highways as result of an order
prohibiting manufacture of this
type of tire, according to Dr. K.
B. McDanlcl, president of the
Oregon Stuto Motor association.
Tho AAA club executive said
that approximately two pounds
morn crudo rubber per tire is
required for making white-wall
tires and the order prohibiting
tho manufacture of these will
savo around 13 million pounds
of crudo rubber each year. Other
savings will be effected in valu
able stores of zinc and oxide
used In coloring the side-walls.
."Trade-Ins of regular stock
tires on new cars for the swanky
white-walls has been responsible
for a steady Increase In use of
this type of tire," said Dr. Mc
Danlcl, "although the principal
advantage is In the looks. Such
tires have white aide-walls only
on one side. Sales from existing
stocks will continue until they
aro exhausted as the order is
sued by tho director of prior
ities simply halted their manu
facture after August 23." He
continued;

cial legislative session, requested
by several Portland groups
which want redrafting of the
state's property tax system,
would cost about $43,000, the
state department said Wednes
day. Special sessions, limited to 20
days, cost $40,731 In 1933, and
$47,343 in 1035.

Increased demand for wool In
the national defense program
lias made the United States the
biggest buyer of Argentine wool,
the depurtmcnt of agriculture re
ported today.
Tho department estimated the
1041-1042 wool export surplus in
Argentina at not more than 478,
000,000 pounds, a reductioa of
about 10 per cent compared with
1940-1041.
In the marketing year that
ended last September 30, 83 per
cent of Argentine wool exports
were taken by the United States.
This compared with 49 per cent
in the previous marketing year
and oajy 21 per cent in 1938-1039.

American Banned
From Berlin Radio
NEW YORK, Nov. 13 (UP
Alex Dreicr, Berlin correspon
dent of National Broadcasting
company, Wednesday notified
his office that he was banned
from the air because of differ
ences arising over censorship of
his broadcast matorial.
Howard K. Smith, of the Co
lumbia Broadcasting system, sta
tioned in Berlin, did not come
through on hia regularly schedul
ed 8 a. m. broadcast Wednesday
but officials at Columbia did not
know whether he also was ban
ned from broadcasting.
