last year, reports tho Oregon
State Motor association.
Nationwide statistics gathered
by AAA headquarters in Wash

States marked up a total of 3ft,
000.000 times when tho first aid

this troublo was relatively less
frequent than in previous years.
In 1040 tiro troublo calls
amounted to 27.0S per cent of
tho total, compared to 32.49 per

Applying this percentage to
total passenger cor registration,
tho report arrives at n total of
0,607,823 "flats" requiring rood
service. Assuming that each sub
sequent tiro repair required tho
minimum 80-ccnt patch, tho to
tal expenditure for repairs was
$4,033,011, in addition to tho
considerable cost of tiro chango

Battery troublo remained No.

moving up slightly in percentage
from 13.33 to 14.40 and account
ing for B.034,000 calls In 1040.
Calls by motorists who hod run
